ナカジマヤスヒロ、べんぞー、門脇拓美によるスリーピースバンド、barican（バリカン）。2012年結成から現在までに自主制作による4曲入りCDEPと、MORETHANとのスプリット7インチレコードをリリース。今回は約10年振りのフィジカルリリースとなる。baricanの音楽はスリーピースであることの強みを最大限に活かし、熱量と勢い、緻密な構成力を兼ね備えている。そこに乗るのは切なさと哀愁を帯びた、絶叫ではない、心の奥からにじみ出るような叫び。そしてそれらを包むのは洗練とは無縁の泥臭い“男汁”のような衝動。だがそれがbaricanの魅力であり、存在理由なのだ。どこか懐かしく、それでいて新しい。憧れたあの頃の音を今、彼らは別次元で鳴らしている。「エモ/ポストロックのリバイバル」という言葉では語りきれない、baricanという名の必然。一時は挫折し、更にはコロナ禍も挟んだ、まさに10年待った待望のリリースとなる。レコーディングエンジニアにはANORAK!, malegoat, falls, The Firewood Projectなどを担当した林淳太、マスタリングは数々のDC作品を手がけるセイハロ作品ではお馴染みのTJ.Lippleが担当した。

barican is a three-piece band featuring Yasuhiro Nakajima, Benzo, and Takumi Kadowaki. Since their formation in 2012, they have released a self-produced 4-track CDEP and a split 7-inch with MORETHAN. Now, after nearly a decade, they finally return with their long-awaited physical release.

The music of barican maximizes the inherent strength of a power trio, combining raw energy and momentum with intricate compositional skill. Rather than mere screaming, the vocals deliver a yearning, melancholic cry that seems to seep from the deepest corners of the soul. All of this is wrapped in an earthy, visceral impulse—a "masculine grit" that shuns refinement. Yet, it is precisely this unpolished nature that defines their charm and their raison d'être.

Their sound is hauntingly nostalgic yet undeniably fresh, channeling the tones we once admired into a different dimension. This is not a sound that can be fully captured by the phrase "emo/post-rock revival"; it is the sheer inevitability of barican. After overcoming personal setbacks and the hiatus of the pandemic, this release marks the end of a ten-year wait.

The album was tracked by recording engineer Junta Hayashi (known for his work with ANORAK!, malegoat, falls, and The Firewood Project) and mastered by TJ Lipple, a staple of SAY HELLO releases and veteran of numerous D.C. hardcore classics. This edition is presented in a sleek cardboard sleeve (paper jacket) specification.
