USはミネアポリスのトリオ、Self-Evident。90年代ポストハードコア〜エモの残響を基軸に、ポリリズムとポリメトリックを自在に操りながら、時に緊張感を、時に異様な艶やかさを孕んだ独自の音楽性を構築してきたバンドだ。
その楽曲は、感情と構造が拮抗しながら渦を巻くように展開し、もはやエモでもマスでも括れない、唯一無二の領域へと突き進んでいる。今回のスプリットには、2024年4月に急逝したベーシスト、トム・バーグが遺した最後の録音が収められており、彼らにとって本作と日本ツアーは追悼と再生を賭けた重要なステージとなる。
そして、本州最西端・山口から音を放つオルタナティブバンド、elephant。US/UKカルチャーの影響を咀嚼し、エモ、ポストロック、シューゲイズなど多様な要素を独自の解釈で融合させたサウンドは、3ピースとは思えないほどの奥行きと熱量を持ち、各地のインディーファンから熱烈な支持を集めてきた。2024年末に配信限定シングル「GRIEF FILMS」をリリース後、ついに5年ぶりとなるフィジカル作品を本スプリットで発表。Self-Evidentとの邂逅は、elephantの現在地を決定づける出来事となるだろう。

From Minneapolis, USA comes Self-Evident—a trio whose music is rooted in the echoes of ’90s post-hardcore and emo, yet transcends both. With their command of polyrhythms and polymetric structures, they build songs that balance tension and strange, haunting beauty, creating a sound entirely their own.
Each composition unfolds like a vortex where emotion and architecture collide, pushing far beyond the boundaries of what might be called emo or math rock. Their contribution to this split includes the final recording left behind by bassist Tom Berg, who sadly passed away in April 2024. For the band, this release and their Japan tour mark a stage of both remembrance and renewal.
From Yamaguchi—the westernmost edge of Japan’s main island—comes elephant, an alternative trio that absorbs and reinterprets US/UK influences into a distinctive blend of emo, post-rock, and shoegaze. Their sound carries a depth and intensity that defies their three-piece setup, earning passionate support from indie fans across Japan. Following the digital-only single “GRIEF FILMS” released at the end of 2024, this split marks their first physical release in five years. The encounter with Self-Evident will undoubtedly become a defining moment in elephant’s evolution.
