2003年にstiffslackからリリースされたジャパニーズエモの当時のニュージェネレーション、今となっては後世のジャパンアンダーグラウンドのエモ〜マスロック界隈に絶大な影響力を誇る東京の4人組バンド「BALLOONS」、彼らの金字塔デビュー1stアルバムが初のヴァイナルフォーマットで再発（CDは廃盤、サブスクリプションにもない音源です）。体温低めのクールな佇まいにクリントーン、クランチの効いた鳴りのノンエフェクト、アンプ直の2つのギターアンサンブルの妙、ネイティブな英語のヴォーカリゼーション、2000年代初頭のそれこそNAHTやnine days wonder以降の変拍子エモ〜マスロックの派生後継者ともえるまさに当時の東京でしか鳴らせないアーバンなサウンドは非常に中毒性が高い作品として今でも語り継がれる名盤です。USエモからだとNO KNIFE、KARATE、JAWBOX、BOYS LIFE、FAREWELL BEND、KEROSENE 454辺りが好きなフリークからも支持されていた作品でもあります。アートワークにはUSエモの名盤を多く手掛けるAndy Muellerが手掛けたのも当時話題性がありました、勿論ヴァイナルですのでジャケットサイズも大きいのでフィジカルでの所有感/存在感も増幅。今回のサウンドにはFUGAZIやDISCHORD周りの作品でも知られるTJ Lippleがヴァイナル用にリマスタリングを手掛けよりブラッシュアップされた音質になっています。完全限定300枚、ダウンロードクーポン封入。(stiffslack)

Released in 2003 on stiffslack, the debut 1st album from Tokyo’s four-piece BALLOONS stands as a monumental landmark. Once considered the "new generation" of Japanese emo, they have since become a profoundly influential force in the subsequent Japanese underground emo and math-rock scenes. This definitive masterpiece is now receiving its first-ever vinyl reissue—a crucial release, as the CD is long out of print and the audio is currently unavailable on streaming platforms.

Their sound is highly addictive and distinctly "urban," a product of early 2000s Tokyo that followed in the footsteps of acts like NAHT and nine days wonder. It is characterized by a cool, low-temperature demeanor, the exquisite interplay of two guitars—relying on clean to crunch tones plugged straight into amps without effects— and native-level English vocalizations. This record has long been a favorite for freaks of U.S. emo, drawing comparisons to bands like No Knife, Karate, Jawbox, Boys Life, Farewell Bend, and Kerosene 454.

At the time of its original release, the artwork by Andy Mueller (famed for his work on numerous U.S. emo classics) created a significant buzz. This vinyl edition amplifies that presence, offering the tactile satisfaction that only a full-sized LP jacket can provide. For this reissue, the audio has been further polished with vinyl-specific remastering by TJ Lipple, whose legendary work with Fugazi and the Dischord catalog ensures top-tier sound quality.
